FG begins road maintenance training for 50 women

The Federal Government has flagged off a programme designed to train 50 rural women on road maintenance and construction just as another 50 professional women would be trained on public procurement process.
 Speaking at the graduation of 50 girls and women who have successfully undergone 9 days training workshop in various  entrepreneurial skills acquisition under the G-WIN project organized by DIFAW, the Director Highways (Planning and Development), Engineer Bala Danshehu, disclosed that the project which is under the Federal Ministry of Works/Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA)  will at the end place the participants on a monthly minimum wage of N18,000 for one year.
Earlier in his goodwill remarks,  the Minister for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Maina, said the Federal Government was committed to enhancing the economic potentials of women in Nigeria.
In his own remarks, the Chairman, G-WIN, Alhaji Aliyu Gusau, said the Federal Government has been working on strategies to improve productivity, growth, peace and acquisition of skills for girls and women in the country.
In her own speech, the Executive Director, DIFAW, Hajiya Hadiza Arab, said the 50 graduating women were from the North- West  Zone, the pilot area, to kick start the G-WIN project as directed by the Federal Government.
Hajiya Hadiza added that the 50 women were given training in different
skills, including road maintenance by FERMA, saying, “at the end of the training, the women will be engaged by FERMA on a monthly allowance of 18,000 naira for one year and would be fully employed by the agency.”
