THE berth of  Motif Glitz Funland,  an ultra modern amusement park  in Ekiti State where fun seekers, tourists, school children and adults can recreate is not only a response to the  clarion call of the  governor of the state,  Dr Kayode Fayemi  to indigenous investors to invest at home and  contribute to  the development of the state, but also an agreement with growing domestic tourism concept of Mrs Sally Mbanefo, Director -General, Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation, (NTDC).
Located along Afao Road,  Iworoko Ekiti, about eight  minutes drive from Ado Ekiti the state capital, Motif Funland is accurately designed for  all category of people irrespective of  age, profession and religious lining, apart from the inflatable  games for the children, there are also games that captivate the adult and aged which reduce worries, banish stress and a better alternative to alcoholism.
Motif Funland which was commissioned  on December 23, 2013 by the Ekiti State Deputy Governor,  Pofessor Modupe Adelabu is equipped with world class children and adult recreation facilities that can be found in any park in the world coupled with the local games such as Ayo Olopon, drought and others.
The children facilities available include, rock climbers, obstacles skipping, boxers’ colony,  swimming pool, trampoline, Merry-Go-round , boating pool,  water slide, and slides of different categories,  dry slide, boxing game,  bouncers cars and bicycles for children.
The proprietor of the centre,  Pastor Funmilola Aina in a chat with TTM said “we have looked  round and realised that there is no recreation centre like this in this axis. The  one we have is  in Ikogosi. We have Ikogosi Warm Spring that is being built by the state government, it is a laudable project but we believe  that individuals too in their own little way  can contribute to the development of our state.
“We have realised that in Ekiti, Ondo and Osun states, there is no recreation centre, anytime we come from Lagos, we only take our children to fastfood joint, that is the only place our children visit for holiday and on Children’s Day and other free days for children. We believe what is happening in Lagos can be better appreciated here. We saw what happened in the amusement park there, and we decided to put this on ground instead of starting an hotel or school. We asked ourselves; why don’t we reach out to the children through their parents,”  she asked.
Adding “if this was  sited in Lagos or Ogun state, we would be going home with nothing less than a hundred thousand naira on daily basis, but having it here in Iworoko is a response to the clarion call by the state Governor, Dr Fayemi to come and contribute to the development of our state.”
Stressing on the importance of visiting recreational centres, Mrs Aina said making use of recreation facilities like these helps to end so many things. It will help resolving so many problems in the home when the children are busy jumping on the infalatable items, their parents will be there playing ayo games, table tennis, drought, chess, snooker games and all sorts. We even have excercise game for the lap, stomach and chest. What we intend to achieve is to help people reduce the stress created by the huzzling and hustling of the week. This is an atmosphere to relax and when you are relaxing, you see your children  in an enclosure jumping up and down playing games, you will be happy and more relaxed because you get those worries off your mind, relaxation in an environment like this lowers the risk of hypertension because if you are hypertensive, you come in here see children playing and you also play  adult  games, you forget your sorrow and go home happy with worries off your mind.
“Also, we are trying to create an environment that will help the teenagers build morals and enjoy what their  peers enjoy in the cities, it is not all that is in thuggery, alcohol, smoking and others. But when they are here, they while away time playing task games with their colleagues and learn new things that help develop their brains. For instance, the  inflatable obstacles game and mountain climbing games are brain tasking and educational, it helps in resolving riddles and develops brains, and if you missed it as a child you cannot get it back as an adult. What we missed as children, our children must not suffer it because this will in turn help  in forming a crime-free society,” she said.
Speaking on the possible challenges, Pastor Aina said:  “We have constraints and part of the constraints is that Ekiti State is not a state where people go out for leisure, we are just trying to see whether we can change that culture, their leisure time is either spent in a beer parlour or church. We are not saying going to church is not good, we are just trying to see if we can introduce a relaxed atmosphere for them, this is just an alternative relaxation and leisure  for people.”
Also, the Manager of the park, Mr Seye Oladejo informed that the park is working on modalities to work with all the schools in Ekiti and embark on road show to sensitise on the need to make use of the available facilities at the Funland.
