NaijaTalkTalk- MTN Nigeria asked to shelve new tariff plan

Regulator instructs MTN Nigeria to discontinue new promotional packge

MTN Nigeria is feeling the heat from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and is not permitted to implement a new price plan for users. The NCC has warned MTN Nigeria that if it moves forward with the new pricing, it could face “serious sanctions.”

The NCC is concerned about MTN’s new TruTalk+ package which the regulator says is in violation of standard practice.
The NCC has ordered MTN Nigeria to stop implementing the new plan, which is already public, as the regulator says it did not approve the promotion.

The Commission has also barred MTN from further advertising the service in the media.
The NCC said the records of the Commission showed that “the operator had no approval or regulatory authority before embarking on the new promotional tariff plan.”

According to the Commission, the new tariff with a daily access fee of NGN 5, allows subscribers to call all networks at NGN 0.11 per second and NGN 0.20 per second to the UK, US, India, Canada and China.
