The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has stated that the health of Nigerians and development of the game of golf are the main objectives why it has decided to maintain a sustained partnership with the IBB International Golf and Country club.



The bank’s deputy governor, financial system stability, Okwu Joseph Nnanna, stated shortly after the tee-off the 9th edition of the annual CBN Governor’s Cup on the 18-hole golf course of the IBB Golf club.

He said the apex bank is bullish about sponsoring golf tournament as part of its traditional support for sports development, because it provides opportunity for golfers who own businesses to network and relax in a peaceful atmosphere.

“It is the tradition of the CBN to sponsor sporting events. We started first with tennis when we had our headquarters in Lagos. Now, we are on to golf. As you are aware, this is the 9th edition in the series of this golf tournament. We do so every year to promote a healthy living. A healthy body, they say, is a healthy mind and that was why we determined to sponsor the tournament,” he said.

According to him, the interest of the bank is not limited to golf, seeing as it has also sponsored the game of football and tennis.
