A Chinese technology firm, Konka Telecoms of China, has set up shop in Nigeria with a pledge to deepen competition in the mobile phone market and give customers opportunities to experience the cutting edge technology which is associated with its products.

The firm, at a launch of its android mobile phone products in Ikeja, said it is using Nigeria as its launch-pad to other parts of the continent, adding that with its partner, Mansales Nigeria Limited, the firm would expand its tentacles to all parts of the country and open more after-sales service centres in addition to the one it has in Lagos.

Speaking during the launch of its range of mobile phones which included Konka W550 and others, the Chairman, Mansales Limited, Engr. Elens Eigbokhan, lamented that for so long, Nigerians had been ripped off through the breach of promise characterised by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) not keeping to their promises.

He recalled his harrowing experience in the hands of some OEMs, adding that the Mansales team was compelled to form a company that would bridge the gap between the end users and quality mobile phones. According to him, the search for a reputable technology firm to fill the space led to the partnership between Mansales and Konka Telecoms of China. He said Konka would keep its promises to its customers in the country by offering quick after-sales service and quality products.

Managing Director of Mansales, Konka Mobile exclusive agent in Nigeria, Mr. Francis Osara gave a firm assurance of the quality and durability of Konka mobile phones with strong emphasis on the timely intervention with well trained service engineers in their ultra modern customer care centre where repairs and other after sales services are rendered. He also spoke about the good quality components of the phones which enhances user experience and good reception even in the most remote locations.

Also speaking at the event, Sales Manager, Konka Telecoms of China, Evangelous Hsieh, said the firm had taken its time to expand to Africa, adding that its choice of Nigeria as a launching pad was not a mistake as the country has the biggest market on the continent.

Evangelous said having come to Nigeria, the firm has come to stay, promising to work towards growing the brand in the country and stocking the market with mobile devices that has been tried and tested in other parts of the world. He said the firm, the Konka Group, was established in 1980 as China’s first Sino-foreign joint consumer electronics enterprise manufacturing and distributing its own brand of prime quality products.

With group revenue running to over $4 billion and with capacity to manufacture 24 million phones yearly, Konka is a first generation Chinese consumer electronic products and mobile handset company. It is in the top 10 of “China’s well known trademarks” and top three most valuable Chinese electronic brands with over 25,000 work-force.
