It is now possible for Globacom subscribers to share their airtime with subscribers on the Airtel network following the launch of a new USSD service that allows telecoms subscribers on one network to share airtime with subscribers on other networks.

With Credit Switch-powered *931# service, interoperability between various platforms for credit transfer is becoming more realistic. Speaking on the new service, the Managing Director of Credit Switch, Tayo Adigun said the service is meant to give more solutions and make life easier for mobile phone users.
“The code is acclaimed as the next level product coming out of Africa. The 931 cross network credit sharing is the first of its kind in the world,” he said.

The service is currently available on Globalcom and Airtel Adigun is expected to motivate techie startups and encourage investments in mobile app development.

“It allows users to share credit from their network provider to other networks. We are in talk with Etisalat and MTN to open their networks for the service as subscribers can only receive airtime on the duo for now via the 931 sharing code but cannot send out credit.

“The idea that you can’t share your credit except you are on the same operator platform has become very boring and even frustrating. For instance, you have two phones, with two different GSM operators SIM cards and you have more than enough credit on a particular one, instead of buying more credit, you can always take out of the other that has more than enough.”
