Onifade is living the designer dream.
His hands have meticulously stitched designs for Young Paris, Davido, Patoranking, Banky W, D’banj, Ice Prince, Angela Simmons and Ugo Mozie.
That’s an achievement for the 26-year-old founder of VIZUVLGVDS, (pronounced visual gods). It is a fashion brand that focuses on contemporary African art.
Onifade has released three collections since founding in 2013. All garments are handmade in his Lagos and Detroit studios.
“We produce limited pieces which are made to order for our customers. I want people to look at my work in 10 or 12 years and say, ‘Wow this guy really put in effort and didn’t make excuses’,” he says.
That’s not all. By day, Onifade is an engineer at General Motors.
“Muktar combines the precision of his engineering background with ability for great form, feel and texture to create great fashion wears for his company. He is the new breed of ‘African lions’ with multiple talents,” says Muftau Alabi, Technical Specialist at General Motors Company.
PULSE NIGERIA, an African news and pop culture site, named his collection as one of the Top 10 Menswear Brands of 2015 in Nigeria.  He was also nominated as part of NBC’s NBCBLK28 list, for black history month, honoring 28 impressive innovators and pioneers.
Dreams do come true by design.
