World Boxing Federation, WBF, Cruiserweight champion Bash Ali, OON,
has said that his seven years of struggle to enter his name in the
Guinness Book of World Records is gradually becoming a reality.
The boxer expressed excitement after the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, inaugurated the Local Organising Committee, LOC, for the Bash Ali Guinness Book of World Records Title Fight Project in Abuja yesterday.
The 14-man committee is headed by Bala Kaoje.
“I feel great. My struggle for seven years has come to reality.
“Sometimes, a disappointment can be a blessing in disguise. Because, if I had fought seven years ago, it is possible that somebody by now may have broken the record.
“So, I will be fighting at the age of 58, which means in this century or in the next, whoever that will have to break the record must be at least 60 years. But, I am not happy about the delay,’’ Ali said.
He also assured that he would defeat his opponent, adding that his opponent was no match. “I am reassuring Nigerians that on the day of the fight, Bash Ali will shock the boxing world. I will beat my opponent, 32 years old Rick Camlin of USA like a bad child, because I am old enough to be his father,’’ the boxer told WHN SPORT
Meanwhile, the NSC Chairman, Bolaji Abdullahi who inaugurated the 14-man committee, headed by Bala Kaoje, tasked the members on ensuring the successful project of staging the fight within the first quarter of 2014.
“I am tasking you (the LOC) with the enormous responsibility of ensuring the success of the project, which is to actualise Bash Ali’s dream of being one of the oldest boxers to be involved in a fight,” he said.
Some of the companies which have identified with the fight include Bank of Industry (BOI), Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) and Globacom. Others are Nexim Bank, NSC, NTA, AIT and FRCN. The fight is being promoted by Otunba Benson Akingboye’s Oba King Promotions.
