D’Tigers will miss the forthcoming FIBA Basketball World Championship
scheduled to hold in Brazil later in the year as Nigeria missed a wild
card to feature in the global event.
At the meeting of FIBA’s Central Board held on Saturday, hosts Brazil, Finland, Greece and Turkey were awarded wild cards.
Brazil are ranked 10th in the latest FIBA rankings as Greece (fifth), Turkey (seventh) and Finland are placed 39th.
Nigeria’s D’Tigers, it will be recalled, lost to Senegal 63-64 in the quarter-final of the African Nations Basketball Championship (Afrobasket 2013) in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire last August.
The Tigers had beaten Mali 74-59, Congo 93-75, Cameroon 91-84 in the first round, and Central African Republic 112-75 in the second round.
