A move to Barclays English Premier League club, Liverpool could be on the cards for Nigeria under-23 striker, Taiwo Awoniyi.

The highly-rated forward, who rose to prominence in 2013 after helping Nigeria’s Under-17 football team win the title at the Fifa Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, has been attracting attention from some of the big hitters in European football.

AS Monaco and FC Porto have been mentioned as possible destinations for the 18-year-old but the Liverpool Echo is now reporting that Awoniyi could be signing for Liverpool in the coming days.
Days before his 18th birthday, Awoniyi had exclusively told supersport.com that a deal with an unnamed club had been all but sealed.

“I am 17 years old but will be 18 in August. I cannot wait to be 18 because that is when I will sign a professional contract.

“I already know where I will be playing my football in the coming days but I cannot discuss it publicly just yet,” the young attacker said during the interview which was conducted in late July.

Awoniyi has since turned 18 and the Echo says that the Impreial Football Academy man will now sign for the Anfield club who will in turn farm him out on loan to a club in the Netherlands or Belgium in order to solve any work permit issues the youngster could have.

The Reds have bolstered their youth ranks this summer with the signings of 16-year-old Bobby Adekanye, 17-year-old Brooks Lennon and 18-year-old Allan Rodrigues de Souza.
