Former National Assembly member, Senator Gbenga Aluko, has said that his governorship ambition in Ekiti State was based on the need to entrench participatory governance and reaching out to the people with democracy benefits.

The All Progressives Congress, APC chieftain said that the Abuja peace initiative where all the crises that had split the party into groups were successfully resolved had shown that the leaders had capacity to rebuild APC into a strong and winning party in the state.

Aluko, who spoke at Ode- Ekiti at the weekend while inaugurating the State Working Committee, Local Government and Ward coordinators of the Gbenga Aluko Forum, said the feat was achieved through discipline associated with APC as a party, stressing that the new spirit of oneness would help the party to forge a united front to win in future elections.

He praised former governors, Adeniyi Adebayo, Segun Oni and Dr Kayode Fayemi; the State APC Chairman, Chief Jide Awe and his deputy, Kemi Olaeye, for successfully rallying members to a peaceful resolution of the crises, as he urged members to operate as agents of the new spirit of Abuja reconciliation to strengthen party structure for the tasks ahead.

The former senator urged the coordinators to see themselves as thebconscience of APC as they emerged through party structure, saying their emergence through democratic process in their respective constituencies had placed them in a position to bear the light of hisvaspiration across the state to ensure APC’s success in futurebelections.

He, however, said his ambition was dependent on the resolution of the recent discoveries on how the 2014 governorship election in the state was allegedly rigged, explaining that as a backer of former Governor Fayemi, he needed to support him in getting to the root of how he was allegedly robbed at poll by some corrupt Nigerians.

Aluko also expressed confidence in the capacity and capability of Ekiti people to create a united front to establish an effective government that could take care of the people’s needs, adding that the performance legacy of APC former governors Adebayo, Oni and Fayemi would guide him in the business of governance. The APC chieftain assured the coordinators: “I have a record of keeping to promise particularly on consensus arrangement.

As you play your part in the work ahead, you are the ones that will also reap the benefits of your labour because I believe in party structure and supremacy, and so nobody will displace you when we achieve our goal”.

He explained that the delay in the implementation of agricultural empowerment scheme to tackle poverty which he announced about two months ago was deliberate, saying he had planned to make the announcement to coincide with the inauguration of the coordinators. “I delay the take-off of the project till today so that I can tell youthat you will be the coordinators of the programme in your areas.
