NaijaTalkTalk- FCTA Warns Against Car Racing In ABUJA

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has warned against car racing in Abuja metropolis, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The FCT Director of Sports Musa Alim told NAN in Abuja during the week that the sport would only be allowed in places designed for it.

“Intra-city roads cannot be used for the car racing sport, except in places designed for it because of the dangers involved,” the director said.

“What some people are doing in Abuja city is not really car racing, but they think they can just be playing with cars in the city.

“The law enforcement agents are after them. People should refrain from taking laws into their own hands.
“Sometimes I told the people who brought the proposal for the sport to be considered that the sport itself involved dangers.

“The FCTA will not allow them to use the internal roads in the Abuja metropolis for such races. It is not possible. These things are done outside the city.”

Alim said it would be wrong for the FCTA to stop the activities of other outfits such as the Presidency, embassies and state officials due to a car racing.

He said those interested in the sport should know what it entails, as well as the mode and nature of the sport before engaging in it.

“This sport takes a whole distance and specific areas are marked for it,’’ the FCT sports chief said.
NAN reports that car racing is a form of circuit auto racing with sports cars that have two seats and enclosed wheels.

The cars are normally customised, purpose-built or related to road-going models. They are a type of hybrid between the purism of open-wheelers and the familiarity of touring car racing. This style is often associated with the annual Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race.
