Online dictionary for yoruba names, YorubaName,  has now made its backlog accessible to the public. In a post on their blog, the guys at YorubaName announced that the website codebase is now on GitHub

This development is as a result of their aim to inspire others to create similar dictionaries, and also encourage others to contribute to the site’s database. The GitHub page gives access to general information, where all the information you need to know on how to contribute to the project is stored,  the dashboard, which contains the codebase for the dashboard application, and the website, which contains the codebase for the core dictionary and website.

YorubaNames is the project of Kola Tubosun and his team. They have been on the scene since 2015 and since then have recorded a few successes like hitting their funding target at Indiegogo. The site is simple, and so far, there is no Yoruba name I haven’t found the meaning to on there.

Now that YorubaNames is going open source, there are going to more hands on deck and the folks at YorubaName are looking to add a few more features to the site. For example, they are working on a “name finder” that’ll help expecting parents find names for their babies.

They’re also working on adding offline capabilities that’ll improve mobile optimization and search experience.

If you’re a developer and you’re interested in contributing to this YorubaName, you should not hesitate to fork the project on GitHub.
